Range Hood Maintenance

The range hood is one of the most important appliances in the kitchen. It consists of a cover or another sort of “capture area” and a lover or blower motor to extract the pollution caused by cooking. By eliminating the contaminated air right at the source, the range hood maintains the air quality in the kitchen. If your range hood is out of order, working in the kitchen becomes difficult and unpleasant, because there is no way we can get rid of unpleasant smells.

In order to prolong the health of your range hood, you:

  • You should keep the metallic grease filter always clean

The metallic grease filter is on the front of the extraction battle, which  prevents larger smoke and grease particles from being sucked up into the appliance and clogging it.

Always keeping these clean will keep your hood operating longer.

  • You should clean the hood interior while the grease filter is out

You should not only clean filters, your hood interior also needs to be clean. Therefore while the filters are in the dishwasher, it’s the perfect opportunity to clean hood’s interior with  a sponge and a non-abrasive cleaning agent. Also it is very important to dry inside walls and the filter thoroughly before reinstalling it.

  • You should replace the carbon filter regularly

It would be better to replace the carbon filter every three to six months, depending on your device habits.

  • You should keep exhaust ducts clean

Exhaust duct  should be cleaned at least every six months.

  • You should keep the outer surfaces of your hood clean

The regular cleaning of the external surfaces is the best way to keep your appliance look good.

How often should you clean your kitchen range hood?

If you cook regularly, the inside and outside of your appliance and the filter should be cleaned monthly. If you aren’t cooking daily, your appliance should be cleaned every six months.

Here are some signs which may indicate a range hood issue:

  • Your appliance will not clear the smoke from the kitchen.
  • There is a lot of noise from the motor and it is humming.
  • Lights or buttons doesn’t work properly.
