Many appliances have existed for hundreds of years, but the self-contained electric or gas powered appliances formed within the 20th century. In the early 1900s, electric and gas appliances included water heaters, washing machines, sewing machines refrigerators and kettles were formed. The invention of Earl Richardson’s small electric clothes iron in 1903 gave a touch initial boost to the house appliance industry.
Within the Post–World War II economic expansion, the domestic use of dishwashers, and garments dryers were a part of a shift for convenience. Increasing discretionary income was reflected by an increase in miscellaneous home appliances.
